One Last Evening on the Terrace

Closing out the UK's hottest summer on record at XIV Club

August's XIV meeting happened to fall on one of those rare British evenings when being outside was the only sensible option. At around 29 degrees, and in what would prove to be the UK's hottest summer on record, it felt like a fitting way to bring the summer season at XIV towards a close.

The evening still began where it always does: around the table.

This month's Professional & Personal Development session was led by XIV member Greg Stanworth, who took the room through how credit profiles actually work: what genuinely affects a credit score, what does not, and why some of the assumptions many of us carry are simply out of date.

It was practical, clear and immediately useful. More importantly, it was exactly what the PPD part of XIV is intended to be: knowledge and experience already within the membership being shared openly for the benefit of everyone in the room.

The two Masterminds were led by Georgie and Laura, each bringing a live challenge to the table. As ever, the value came from the quality of the questions, the different perspectives around the room and the willingness to challenge one another properly. The objective is not simply to discuss a problem; it is to help the member leave with greater clarity and something useful to act on.

We were also joined by two invited guests who were considering membership. For a Club deliberately limited to fourteen business owners, the chemistry of the room matters. There is no better way to understand XIV than to spend an evening in it, contribute to the discussion and experience the group as it really is.

Once the working session finished, we moved out onto the terrace for dinner, followed by dessert and drinks at the bar. With the temperature still close to 29 degrees, it was probably our last true summer evening of the year - linen, open air and all.

A useful meeting, two strong Masterminds, a great PPD session and plenty of time afterwards to enjoy each other's company. A good way to close out a record-breaking summer.
